Privacy Policy

How we handle information collected through this website. This policy describes the customer site at stjosephiga.com — not the staff or admin portals.

Overview

St. Joseph IGA operates this website to share store hours, contact information, weekly ads, coupons, and other customer resources. We do not offer online ordering or checkout through this site.

Weekly ad email signups

If you sign up for weekly ad emails, we collect the email address you provide and, optionally, your first name. We use that information only to send weekly ad messages and related store updates you requested. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or on our unsubscribe page. To sign up, use the form on the Weekly Ads page or see the weekly ad email FAQ. When you unsubscribe we keep your email address for a limited period to honor your unsubscribe request and to prevent accidental re-adds, then remove it.

Weekly ad notifications

If you turn on weekly ad notifications, your browser creates a push subscription for this site and we store it — a delivery address generated by your browser plus its encryption keys. It contains no name or email address, and we use it only to send a notification when a new weekly ad is posted. Notifications are delivered through your browser's own push service (for example, Apple, Google, or Mozilla, depending on your browser). You can turn them off any time with the same control on the Weekly Ads page or in your browser's site settings; we delete the stored subscription when you turn notifications off or when your browser reports it no longer works.

Store assistant chat

If you use the store assistant on this site, we save the message you send and the reply it gives, so store staff can review whether answers were accurate and see what shoppers are asking for. Those saved conversations are visible to store staff in our admin tools. We do not attach your name, email address, or an advertising profile to them, and we do not use them to identify you.

Most answers come from our own store information—hours, departments, weekly ads, and our product list. When the assistant cannot answer from that and our AI reply feature is turned on, your message is sent to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) to help write a reply. Anthropic processes these messages only to provide that service to us. We do not send your messages to any other AI company.

We keep assistant conversations for about 90 days, then delete them automatically. Because staff read these messages, please do not type anything sensitive into the assistant—including health details, payment card numbers, or government ID numbers. If you want a conversation removed sooner, contact the store using our contact page.

Cookies and site analytics

We do not show a cookie pop-up, because there is very little to consent to. Browsing this site sets no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies. We run no advertising pixels and no third-party marketing trackers. Here is the complete list of what a customer visit can store in your browser:

  • Google Analytics (_ga cookies). We use Google Analytics 4 through Firebase to count page views and see which pages are useful. It loads Google’s gtag.js script from googletagmanager.com, sets _ga cookies, and stores two small Firebase databases in your browser. It collects device and usage information such as pages viewed and approximate location derived from your IP address. You can turn this off at any time — see “Your choices” below.
  • Store map.Our home page and contact page embed a Google Map so you can find the store. Google may set its own cookies when that map loads. Turning off analytics does not affect the map; to block it, use your browser’s cookie or content settings.
  • Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. These count page visits and measure page-load speed. They are cookieless and store nothing in your browser, and they stop when you turn analytics off below.
  • Staff sign-in. If you sign in to the staff or admin portal, those areas set session cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in. Ordinary customer browsing never sets them.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use analytics to build advertising profiles for third-party marketers.

Your choices

Turn analytics off. Use the “Site analytics” control at the bottom of any page. Turning it off stops Google Analytics from loading, stops the Vercel measurements above, and deletes the _ga cookies immediately. The two Firebase browser databases are removed as soon as the page releases them—usually right away, and by your next page load at the latest. Your choice is remembered in your browser and you can change it at any time.

We honor Global Privacy Control automatically. If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we turn analytics off for you without your having to ask. You do not need to do anything else.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies for this site is safe for customers; it may affect the staff portal if you use it.

Staff and admin areas

Employee and admin portal pages are for store staff only. Those areas use separate authentication and are not intended for public use. Do not submit employment applications or customer inquiries through staff login forms.

Employment applications

If you submit an employment application through this website, we collect the information you provide so the store team can consider you for open roles and follow up. This includes your name, phone number, email address, date of birth, the position and availability you enter, and any work experience, references, or notes you choose to add. If you list references, please share only contact details you are permitted to provide. Use the employment application page for that purpose only.

We keep application information for a limited period after a hiring decision so we can manage the hiring process and meet recordkeeping needs, then remove it. To ask about, correct, or request deletion of an application you submitted, contact the store using the details on our contact page.

Service providers

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run this website and cannot operate it without them. Website hosting and delivery run on Vercel; data such as weekly-ad signups and employment applications is stored with Google Firebase; transactional emails (for example, weekly-ad confirmations and staff account emails) are sent through Resend; weekly ad notifications are delivered through your browser's push service (for example, Apple, Google, or Mozilla, depending on your browser); store assistant replies may use Anthropic as described above; and abuse protection uses Upstash. These providers process information only to provide their service to us, under their own security and privacy terms. We do not sell your personal information.
